Former Vice President Kamala Harris wanted to pick then-Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg as her running mate in 2024, but decided against it because she wasn’t “a straight white man,” according to an excerpt from her new book.
In portions of her new memoir published by The Atlantic on Wednesday, Harris wrote that the openly gay Buttigieg was her “first choice” for her vice presidential running mate. However, she said she felt that a ticket with Buttigieg would present a level of diversity America wasn’t ready to embrace.
