Rep.AlexandriaOcasio-Cortez(D-N.Y.)isincreasinglybeingseenasthefutureofthepartybyDemocratswhosaysheandotherprogressives,suchasNewYorkCityMayorZohranMamdani,representtheparty’senergy.
Theseprogressivesareexcitingthebase,drawinglargeralliesanddominatingtheoverallmessagingcomingfromDemocrats.
Butothersinthepartyinsistaprogressive wouldfailin ageneralelectionandthatDemocratsneedamorecentristcandidatein2028,likePeteButtigieg—theformersecretaryofTransportationintheBidenadministration—orPennsylvaniaGov.JoshShapiro.
